So nice of you to drop by, Hypnotic James! Actually, the Hyppies were celebrating their first full year of funky donut creations by doing donut drops this weekend. There was a drop right in my hood next to the SMU Campus. Seems my munchkin was finishing up volleyball camp on said campus so–you know–I sorta had to get donuts.
I ordered 2 Evil Elvises–or would that be Elvi–2 Canadian Healthcare, a BooBee, a Turtle, one of them with Pop Tarts and one with chocolate and Cap’n Crunch. I don’t remember all the names, but amid all the hype, all the bacon, cereal, peanut butter and bananas I found ONE THING that made me really happy. I found an excellent glazed donut.
There is nothing better in this world than a perfectly executed glazed yeast donut. Have you ever had one just out of the grease to where the glaze is still thin and dripping? You’ve not lived. I’m assuming it’s similar to the King of the Hill episode where Lucky is trying to get Bobby a Frito right off the line. Everything is better fresh. Donuts are no freaking exception.
And while my donut was not fresh out of the grease pit, it was still very fresh with an excellent flavor, good glaze to donut ratio and iced perfectly. And that to me is more important than any amount of bacon.
One flavor I would like to see is something that captures the taste of a pancake with syrup nuzzled up next to my bacon. The Canadian Healthcare comes close but the Maple icing just doesn’t make the cut. I need a more Mrs. Butterworth flavor going on here. I’m thinking a homemade icing with more syrup and maybe a little bacon salt? I’m just sayin’.
And in all honesty, my order was a mess. I had to do two orders because people kept wanting things. And then I forgot to put what day I was picking up. And then they ran out bananas when they were making my Evil Elvi donuts. So, since there’s a 200% guarantee I got more free glazed donuts a’comin!
James, the owner, hinted that there might be a location on the horizon for my neighborhood. That would be more than Hypnotic. I’m voting for a food truck on Lower Greenville. This is the ideal drunk food…not that I’m ever drunk.
